Glossary definitions provided in part by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

Investing : The act of purchasing securities such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds with the goal of increasing wealth over time, but with the risk of loss.

Investors : People investing in securities, such as stock and bonds, to achieve long-term financial goals.

IRA: (See Individual Retirement Account.)

Irrational Belief : An assertion, claim or expectation about reality that is false. Noted as and &"B"; in the Rational-Emotive model, A-B-C-D. (See Rational-Emotive model)

Itemized Deductions: Expenses that can be deducted from your adjusted gross income (AGI) and before your determine your income tax. Itemized deductions include medical expenses, taxes, deductible interest, charitable contributions, casualty and theft losses, unreimbursed employee expenses and miscellaneous deductions.
