Glossary definitions provided in part by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

Chronic Condition: chronic conditions last a year or more and require ongoing medical attention and/or limit activities of daily living.

Closed-end credit: A specific-purpose loan requiring repayment with interest and any other finance charges by a specific date. Examples include most mortgages or auto loans.

COF: College Opportunity Fund - All Colorado residents who attend a public college or university are eligible for this stipend. But, you must register for it. For more info and to sign up, visit www.collegeincolorado.org.

Cognitive Psychology: A branch of psychology concerned with mental processes (perception, thinking, learning, and memory) that are connected to sensory stimulation and the overt expression of behavior.

Co-Insurance: An insurance policy provision under which the insurer and the insured share costs incurred after the deductible is met, according to a specific formula.

Collateral: Property that a borrower promises to give up to a lender in case of default.

Collectibles: Physical objects-such as fine art, stamps, and antiques-that an investor buys in the hope that they will grow in value.

Collection agency: A business that specializes in obtaining payments from debtors who have defaulted on their loans.

CollegeInvest: CollegeInvest, a division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education of the State of Colorado. CollegeInvest is the administrator of the Direct Portfolio College Savings Plan, Stable Value Plus College Savings Plan, and Scholars Choice College Savings Program.
