4. Health Insurance

c. Should I participate in my employer’s health insurance program?

Yes, it's usually a good idea to participate in your employer's health insurance program if they offer one. Employer-sponsored health insurance plan premiums can be considerably lower priced than those for an individual health insurance plan because the plan is group rated and your employer contributes toward the cost. If your employer gives you a choice of plans, make sure that you understand your choices and pick the plan best suited for you and your family. Most employers offer an enrollment kit to help you make your decisions. If you have questions about the choices or the benefits, talk to your employer before you make your choice.  Most plans only allow you to change your choice during a specific period of time each year, called an open enrollment period, except in special circumstances.
